Axarquia, the East of Malaga, is a district (comarca) in the province of Málaga. It has remained very agricultural, which has kept it free from mass tourism. It is the ideal place to go on holiday in Andalusia all year round thanks to its subtropical microclimate.
The origin of the word Axarquia :
Axarquia, comes from the Arabic word Ash-sharquía (الشرقية) and means “to the East” , “towards the East”. It refers to the 45 km of coastline east of Malaga, as far as Nerja in Costa del Sol.
