La Vinuela best things to see and do

Oasis of Axarquia !

La Vinuela and its hamlets

La Vinuela is the youngest village in Axarquia – Costa del Sol. It “only” dates from the 15th century.

Its name is directly linked to its history. At that time, there were many vineyards, and later on a venta (inn) was opened with the name of “La Viña”, which later gave the name to the village, La Viñuela. This venta still exists and is located next to the church.

La Vinuela also offers many different landscapes. If you want to see them all, the best place to do so is at the foot of an old Arab watchtower, the Torre de Atalaya.

Above the article you'll see all pics.

The municipality  is made up of many hamlets and villages.

At the bottom of the article you can see pics of “Los Romanes”, “Los Gomez”, among others. The village of Los Romanes may seem recent. However, it has preserved the ancestral culture of the vine, you can still see paseros (place where the grapes are dried on the ground to obtain the fabulous “pasa”, the dried grape. It offers magnificent views of the lake (reservoir) of La Vinuela

It is also possible to see an “era”, an old wheat threshing floor.

Finally, this village houses the museum of the “verdiales”. The Verdiales are an authentic folklore of Axarquia and the Montes de Málaga, and the oldest in Europe

Discover the fabulous hamlet of Los Castillejos

This one is a big hit, and I thank my friend Nacho for this beautiful discovery. This hamlet, long forgotten and isolated  is today a little jewel (see all last pics at the end of the post).

It seems that originally “Les Castillejos” were under Al Andalus, a “relay” between the Tahona, the castle of Comares, and the castle of Zalia in Alcaucin. This site has one last particularity, we know today that it has been occupied since prehistoric times! It is one of the 3 archaeological sites of La Vinuela.
