Hiking in Competa discover an incredible walk

The rio Patamalara : hiking in Competa

A magnificent and little-known hike in Andalucia on the Costa del Sol

Hiking in Competa, discover a hike like no other : 15 km long, with a high difficulty (All pics at the end of the article).

It is a bit like the Rio Chillar hike.

All you need is a pair of trainers that won’t get in the way, as the hike is done with your feet in the water (see photos below).

Where does start this hike in Competa ?

The hike starts at the old fabrica de la luz (only 4 kms from the famous ghost village of El Acebuchal).

We go up the river to an absolutely incredible waterfall of about 20 meters high. Along the way we cross some gorges and small waterfalls that have formed some natural pools. We also enjoy the magnificent landscapes offered by the Sierra de Almijara.

The Patamalara River is also called the Torrox River where it passes through Torrox pueblo.

The rules for this hike

We take a small backpack with food and drink, as well as a bag to keep all the rubbish to throw away on the way back, and above all not to leave anything in nature. For safety, and even if there are more than 300 days of sunshine per year, we check that there has been no rain the previous days

This is the starting point :
