In the early 20th century, the development of hydroelectric facilities necessitated the construction of a road, primarily to link the various sites and to facilitate the movement of workers and equipment.

A few years later, in 1921, King Alfonso XIII came to inaugurate the new facilities associated with the Conde de Guadalhorce reservoir and walked along this path.
