Benamargosa is an authentic white village in Axarquia, in the province of Malaga.

San Sebastian is a saint celebrated in many villages around Velez Malaga, of which he is the patron saint.
Sebastian was originally a Roman soldier in the 3rd century. He later fought against the Roman emperor of the time in defence of the Christians. A pope made him the “Defender of the Church” and the patron saint of Christian soldiers and knights. When Velez Málaga was reconquered by the Catholic kings (as with other towns), King Fernando often ordered the construction of a hermitage or church in his name.
The story goes that during the reconquest of the fortress of Velez Málaga, a man named Sebastian gave his life by standing in front of King Fernando as he was about to be killed by an arrow.
