Dates of the Fiesta de la Quema of Algarrobo

The Fiesta will take place from 20 to 22 September 2024.

This Fiesta de la Quema in Algarrobo commemorates a historical event: the rebellion of the inhabitants against the Napoleonic troops.

At the time, Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte appointed his brother Joseph Bonaparte King of Spain (and Naples). This occupation at the beginning of the 1800s was to prove an ordeal for Napoleon’s troops.

Following an ambush on the Napoleonic troops, the French governor of Malaga gave the order to burn down the village… which was saved in extremis by a villager.
