Axarquia house museum in Moclinejo
A wonder !
The Gaudi of Axarquia house museum
Presenting the Axarquia house museum is for me the opportunity to name its creator. He is a man passionate about his land and local crafts. This is Antonio Montañez Lisbona, whom I had the chance to meet this summer.
His house museum is located in El Valdes, a hamlet attached to the village of Moclinejo .
The house was built to showcase all the local crafts (ceramics) on the outside. Inside it pays homage to many local painters (200 masterpieces).
We also discover the axarco, the local currency that has disappeared and many objects from the house of the past century. The decoration in the basement can even seem loaded and iconoclastic to the point of recalling a little the house of Gabriele D. ‘Annunzio in Gardone Riviera. But the comparison stops there.
Today, the house he built has earned him the nickname of Gaudí of Axarquia
Ceramics around the house museum
You have to go and see the small square behind the house. There are a number of incredible ceramics, all made and donated to the city by Mr. Montañez Lisbona.
Through the enhancement of ceramics, a living local craft, there is a moving tribute paid to the picapiedros (stone breakers). A hard work of past centuries.
