Arenas is an authentic white village in Axarquia, in the province of Malaga.

The dates of the Arenas Mule Fair in 2023
Arenas Mula Fair will be held from 12 to 14 October 2023.
The mule in the province of Málaga
The mule has always been absolutely essential to man, both for travelling in the mountains and for harvesting crops, especially during the grape harvest.
Even today, vineyards in Axarquía are cultivated on mountainsides with gradients of up to 60%, making it impossible to use mechanical equipment. This fair pays tribute to the animal that has finally enabled man to farm and live in these mountains.
Where does this animal, the mule, come from?
The mule (or mullet, if it’s a male) is a cross between a donkey and a mare. Man has been making these crosses since ancient times. They were used in the military, especially to transport men and equipment in mountainous terrain and in the fields, until agriculture was mechanised.
From this cross-breeding, the mule, a hybrid animal, has the strength of the horse and the robustness of the donkey.
