A visit to the Alhambra is a must on any trip to Andalucia. The Alhambra Palace in Granada – the former capital of the Nasrid kingdom – is unforgettable.
What is a day trip to the Alhambra and Albayzin from Nerja like?
This tour of the Alhambra and the wonderful Albayzin is carried out in semi-private groups (2 to 8 people maximum) departing from Nerja, Torre del Mar and Torrox.
The guide Cipriano – pictured below – will pick you up in the morning at your place of stay in a Mercedes Vito and drive you to Granada.
Tour of the Alhambra
The guide will immerse you in the Al-Andalus period with his stories. He will show you the history of the Alhambra Palace. The entrance to the Alhambra is very quick, with tickets purchased in advance by your guide.
The Alhambra was built in the 13th century, at the beginning of the Nasrid era. It covers an area of 140,000 m². Its name comes directly from the Arabic al-Qalʻatu al-Ḥamrāʼ, i.e. “the red castle”.
You will discover all the wonders of this unique site in the world, including the famous courtyard of lions with its 124 carved marble columns. You will also see the Comares Palace, and the Alcazaba.
Afterwards we take the van to the mythical Albaicin district in a few minutes.
The tour of the Albayzin neighbourhood
The guided tour to this district is done in the early afternoon. This neighbourhood, like the Alhambra, has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Your guide will take you to the Albayzin, which has retained all its original character. You will discover the famous Carmenes in the oldest and most authentic part of Granada.
The Carmenes are old palaces in the Albayzin with beautiful inner courtyards.
This day is a real trip, and even a trip back in time that will be remembered for a long time.
At the end of the day trip, Cipriano will take you back to your accommodation in Nerja, Torre del Mar and Torrox.
